Job Details

  • Location: San Francisco, California
  • Specialty: Registered Nurse, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts, Day (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) or Night (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Facility Float: Ability to float to other facilities within the system

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Skills/Experience:
    • Conscious Sedation
    • Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
    • Mechanical ventilation (ventilator) management
    • Central line care

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCRN certification
  • Level 1 Trauma experience
  • Experience with post-bone marrow transplant patients

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Two supervisory references from recent employment (charge nurses acceptable)
  • Current and updated resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
  • Verification of 7 years of work history (in-house or third-party)
  • Completed references must be submitted at time of application
  • All Return to Office (RTO) requests must be submitted at time of offer; late submissions will not be considered

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific counties and nationwide databases, completed within 30 days of start and renewed annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Sex offender search as required

Certifications & Competency Exams

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for ICU and Telemetry units (AHA only, no placeholders)
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam on first day of orientation (2 attempts allowed; third requires manager approval)
  • Medication and unit-specific competency exams with passing score of 80% or higher, completed within 12 months prior to start
  • Core clinical competency modules (Parts I, II, III) with passing score of 80%, updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including fitness to work statement
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific approved masks required; onsite fit testing available as last resort)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted except medical exemptions)
  • Two negative TB tests required (one within 1 year, second within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
  • Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (no history of disease accepted)
  • Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, renewed every 2 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April)
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended but not required as of current policy

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or on first day of orientation (varies by start day)
  • Review and initial COVID-19 preparedness, parking/uniform policies, and respirator medical evaluation questionnaire as applicable
  • Completion of cybersecurity awareness training and quiz annually with passing score of 80% or higher
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all RNs
