Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: Stepdown Intermediate Care (22-bed unit)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Hours per week: 36
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Floating: Yes, as needed
  • Call: No call required
  • Restricted Return to Office (RTO): No early July time off approved
  • Charting System: Cerner Powerchart
  • Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
  • Locals not accepted; candidate must live at least 50 miles away

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown / Intermediate Care, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications required:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) only
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) only
    • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) – must be completed through BlueCloud or equivalent

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check covering last 7 years in all states lived/worked; must be within 90 days of start and updated annually (except APN)
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
  • Physical exam required (Aya Physician Statement form)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Q-gold accepted; T-spot not accepted)
  • TB questionnaire required prior to start and annually
  • Drug screen: Negative 12-panel drug test within 30 days of start, including amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine (or opiates)
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start and documentation on file by December 15 (flu season October–May)
  • Fit mask test required within 1 year of assignment start and must not expire during assignment (specific mask types accepted); PAPR training provided if unable to pass fit test

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Clear, passport-style photo with solid background for badge
  • Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement must be completed prior to start
  • Completion of facility-specific online modules (approx. 8-10 hours) due by Friday before start date; paid hours for completion
  • Employment application required for all candidates

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required
  • Floating may include coverage outside the stepdown unit as needed
  • No call or overnight shifts required
  • Candidates must be willing to work every other weekend and every other holiday
