Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: San Leandro, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Provide Speech-Language Pathology services in outpatient and skilled nursing facility (SNF) settings.
  • Patient populations include those with cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), degenerative diseases, dysarthria, dysphagia, nervous system disorders, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and dysphasia management.
  • Use of adaptive equipment as part of therapy.
  • Preferred experience includes charge responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Certifications:
    • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)
  • Accepts first-time travelers (no prior travel experience required).

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (photo ID, color, clearly visible).
  • Background checks within 90 days prior to start, including:
    • SSN Trace
    • 7-year Nationwide, County, and National Criminal searches
    • FACIS Level 3
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • OIG Sanction Search
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM verification
  • Education verification confirming minimum required education is met (no pending verification at start).
  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, NP, or APRN confirming good health and ability to perform job duties. Annual expiration required for skilled nursing and sub-acute locations.
  • Fit mask test within 90 days of start with approved masks (3M 8210, 3M 1860S, 3M 1860R). PAPR accepted if fit test failed (approval required).
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or signed declination (TD not accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray updated annually (IGRA or 2-step PPD)
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • Proof of 2 MMR vaccinations or positive IgG titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella (boosters required if titers low/equivocal)
    • Positive Hepatitis B titer or proof of vaccine series or signed declination (declinable)
    • Proof of 2 Varicella vaccinations or positive IgG titer (boosters required if titers low/equivocal)
  • Drug testing: Oral saliva drug screen within 30 days of start (rapid tests not accepted), covering amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, opiates, oxycodone, PCP.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination on file by November 6; masking required through flu season regardless of vaccination status.
  • Color blind exam within 90 days of start (Ishihara test accepted).

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific competencies and new employee orientation modules on the first day of work. Failure to complete within 14 days results in immediate termination.
  • Current resume including last 7 years of employment.
  • Employment verification for past 3 years.
  • References as required by the staffing agency (not facility).

Skills & Experience

  • Experience with SNF patients and neurological conditions such as CVA, TBI, and degenerative diseases.
  • Skilled in dysphagia and dysarthria management.
  • Familiarity with adaptive equipment in therapy.

This position offers a structured day shift with a focus on rehabilitation and outpatient therapy for neurological and degenerative conditions, suitable for SLPs with at least 2 years of experience and appropriate certifications. First-time travel therapists are welcome.
