Registered Nurse – Telemetry Unit

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Heart & Vascular Unit (49 beds), specialty medical/surgical, fast-paced cardiovascular care
  • Patient population includes stable heart and lung transplants, and Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs)
  • Sister unit to Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
  • Drip management required on all floors
  • EPIC electronic charting experience required

Work Schedule & Floating

  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), totaling 36 hours/week
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat nights)
  • Floating required frequently to meet staffing needs, including to multiple units and potentially to a nearby campus
  • Floating units may include medical/surgical, neuro, trauma, observation, and specialty units

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted if in hand before start; otherwise booking delayed)
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting (highest experience requirement)
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted unless 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA standards)
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Drip management skills required

Additional Requirements & Preferences

  • Must be prepared to float frequently within scope of practice
  • NICOTINE-FREE facility
  • Scrubs mandatory: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
  • Background check, drug screen, and multiple health screenings required prior to start and updated annually
  • Physical exam, fit mask test, immunizations (MMR, Hep B, Varicella, Tdap), TB testing, and flu vaccination documentation required
  • COVID vaccination preferred; exemptions accepted
  • Two professional references from the last 2 years required
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Government-issued photo ID required

Restrictions & Notes

  • Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
  • Up to two weeks of Return to Office (RTO) permitted, subject to manager approval
  • Holiday work requirement: must work 2 out of 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
  • Parking permits available for purchase; daily parking also available
