Job Opportunity: Med/Tele/Peds RN

Position Details

• Unit: Med/Surg/Peds (No ICU, but may care for Tele or ICU acuity patients within scope of practice)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Beds: 25 total (recent max census 12-14 patients)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6
  • Critical patients: 1:1 or 1:2

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year nursing experience required
• Must have MedSurg, Telemetry, and Pediatrics experience
• Prefer travel nursing experience but not mandatory if skills are strong
• Wide skill set needed due to variety of patient ages and diagnoses
• Ability to titrate drips (e.g., Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, Heparin, Aminophylline, Magnesium, Potassium, Albumin, blood products)
• RNs must read and interpret telemetry monitors (no monitor techs on unit)

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Age range: Pediatrics through Geriatrics
• Variety of acute and chronic illnesses including:

  • Respiratory diseases
  • Infectious diseases
  • Gastrointestinal issues
  • Alcohol intoxication/withdrawal
  • Liver disease
  • Acute kidney injury (AKI)
  • Diabetes mellitus (DM), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Swing bed/rehab patients
  • Occasional social admits

Unit Support & Equipment

• No charge nurse on shift; house supervisor/coordinator available
• Patient care techs available (ratio 1:12)
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes Bipap, Ventilator, Glidescope, Heated high flow, Bubble CPAP, nasal cannula, oxygen mask, non-rebreather, high flow cannula

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Shifts: 7am-7pm, 7pm-7am, rotating days and nights (no guaranteed blocked scheduling)
• Weekend requirement: Minimum 2 out of every 6 weekends; may be asked to fill additional weekends as needed
• Holiday requirement: Yes, with possibility of requesting time off if given in advance
• No call or standby required; overtime opportunities available
• Floating: May be asked to assist other departments but will not be asked to work outside scope of practice or experience

Orientation & Other Notes

• Unit-specific orientation: Minimum 2 shifts
• Scrub color: Any
• ICU patients may occasionally be cared for on this floor due to no ICU at this hospital
• Radius rule: Candidates must be within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed or contracted with any CommonSpirit-associated facilities
• Time off requests must be submitted upfront; limited flexibility for additional time off during contract

This position is ideal for nurses with MedSurg, Telemetry, and Pediatric experience who are comfortable managing a diverse patient population in a smaller hospital setting without an ICU unit.
