ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Nebraska, Omaha

Job Details

  • Specialty: ICU RN
  • Location: Omaha, Nebraska
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 7am - 7pm (12-hour shifts)
  • Scheduling: 6-week schedule managed by a scheduler
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Rotates with permanent staff
  • Floating: May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or MedSurg

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: ICU
  • Beds: 16
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
  • Patient Types: Variety of ICU acuity patients including ventilated patients, BIS scoring, targeted temperature management (TTM), and rarely intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
  • Drip Titration: Required (vasopressors/inotropes, sedatives, heparin, octreotide, insulin)
  • Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes an assignment
  • Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: None on unit
  • Physician Support: eICU support available for 14 rooms; no in-house intensivist 24/7

Orientation & Training

  • Classroom orientation followed by 2 shifts (12 hours each) on the unit
  • Pass/fail exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Must have a valid driver’s license at time of submission
  • Candidates must live within 50 miles radius of the facility
  • Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system (restrictions apply)
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • Looking for positive, team-oriented nurses willing to collaborate and overcome challenges
  • Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions will be approved

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
  • Minimum of 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
