Unit Details
- Unit Type: Acute Care
- Beds: 29 beds (typical census 22-26, target 25)
- Room Type: Mixture of private and semi-private rooms
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 4-5 patients per nurse
- Night shift: 5-6 patients per nurse
- Patient Diagnoses: Wide range including GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly fall patients, DVT, pulmonary embolisms
- Drip Titration: RNs required to titrate Heparin only
- Charge Nurse: 24-hour coverage; charge nurse generally free of assignment
- Additional Coverage: 24-hour Crisis RN and administrative supervisor available 24/7
- Patient Care Techs: 24-hour coverage, ratio 1:10
- Respiratory Equipment: No ventilators; oxygen up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
- Telemetry: Patients monitored remotely by telemetry department; unit uses primarily Phillips equipment
- Unit Clerk: 24-hour coverage
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm & 7pm-7am)
- Shift Report: At shift change (7am and 7pm)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Dayshift weekend: Saturday/Sunday
- Nightshift weekend: Friday/Saturday
- Holiday Requirement: Rotated holidays
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Travel RNs float first to other med/surg units; no ICU or chemo patients
Requirements & Certifications
- Licensure: Active Illinois RN license or application in process
- Certifications: BLS certification required
- Drug Screen: Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation (12 non-billable hours)
Additional Information
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
- Scrub color/dress code: Any color scrubs, staff provide their own; no pediatric scrubs allowed
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
Experience Requirements
