ICU (Intensive Care Unit) RN

Overview

• Travel contract for experienced ICU nurses in Sacramento, California.
• 13-week assignment.
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California.
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Driver's License

Unit Details

• ICU unit with 12 beds.
• Patient ratio is 1:1-2.
• Medical/Surgical ICU population.
• Common diagnoses include Non STEMIs, CVA, MOF, Sepsis, and respiratory failure.
• Common bedside procedures include TEEs and bronchs.
• Comfort care patients are common and remain in ICU.

Schedule and Work Expectations

• Start dates available: 11/10 and 11/17.
• 4 weekend shifts minimum in a 4-week period.
• Holidays rotate with core staff.
• Self-scheduling is used, but schedules are not finalized until the manager balances them.
• Block scheduling is generally not available.
• Overtime and extra shifts are available.
• Travelers can make themselves available for extra shifts and trade with other staff.
• First to float.

Clinical Environment

• Charge nurse generally does not take patients and provides break relief.
• No nurse aides.
• Vents are supported.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist is in house.
• RT and Pharmacy are available 24/7.
• Tele is required, with EKG strip interpretation.
• Floating may occur to other Sacramento facilities.

Additional Notes

• Navy scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black. Scrub jackets, if worn, must be navy.
• Report is at the bedside.
• Floor orientation is 1-2 days with a preceptor.
