Registered Nurse (ER RN) - North Dakota

Job Details

• Location: Hettinger, North Dakota
• Contract Length: 16 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour Day/Night rotation
• Hours per week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or possibly every third weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with manager oversight; block scheduling considered case-by-case
• Floating: Required to float to MedSurg units as needed

Work Environment

• Department: Emergency Room
• Trauma Level: Level IV, Acute Stroke Ready Hospital
• ER Setup: 2 ER rooms plus 1 overflow room; no fast track or separate holding/psych rooms
• Security: No in-house security; 911 for sheriff assistance
• Average Patients per Day: 4-5
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1 charge nurse for every 2 patients
• Support Staff: CNAs from MedSurg available; EMS staff may assist on request
• Respiratory Therapy: No RT coverage 24/7; RNs perform ABGs, breathing treatments, EKGs, and RT equipment setup (CRNA assists with vents)
• Radiology: On-call radiology for X-ray and CT; transport assistance may be needed
• Lab Draws: Phlebotomy draws labs; RNs usually do not
• Monitor Techs: None; RNs read telemetry strips and monitor Mindray equipment

Patient Population and Care

• Common Diagnoses: Acute illnesses, lacerations, orthopedic injuries, trauma, cardiac cases (STEMI patients transferred out)
• Common Drips: Heparin, Cardizem, Nitro
• Physician Coverage: MDs and residents with 15-minute response time after hours
• Charge Nurse Role: Responsible for ER patients without direct patient assignment

Required Certifications and Experience

• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; TNCC preferred
• Experience: ER nursing experience in similar settings required

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day and 1 night shift on the unit

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Any color or pattern allowed
• Footwear: Closed-toe shoes required
