Echo / Vascular Ultrasound Technologist (Contract)
Location: Lawton, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Friday to Monday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Hours per Week: 20
Job Summary
Assist radiologists and physicians by performing ultrasound exams (including adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients) to aid in diagnosis. Provide patient care, operate ultrasound equipment, and maintain accurate records and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound exams using established procedures and protocols.
- Provide patient care and comfort; explain procedures and establish rapport with patients and families.
- Obtain and correlate patient history and clinical data to optimize diagnostic results.
- Interpret ultrasound images and provide technical findings to physicians.
- Maintain and document equipment performance, infection control, and quality assurance.
- Use Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for documentation and image management.
- Respond to on-call duties as scheduled, carrying a beeper 24/7.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and protect patient privacy.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain professional competency.
Required Qualifications
- Registry certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Echo Technologist, with recent experience within the last year.
- Experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to manipulate ultrasound transducer and use computer and calculator.
- Lift and move supplies weighing 10-25 pounds; push/pull equipment up to 100 pounds on casters.
- Stand approximately 2 hours per day; walk throughout hospital; sit for over 3 hours during exams and paperwork.
- Climb stairs and use step stools as needed.
- Handle patients gently and perform physical assessments such as feeling pulse points and skin texture.
- Hear alarms, conversations, and equipment signals clearly.
- Use vision to read medical documents and interpret exam results.
- Perform body movements including bending, stooping, squatting, and twisting to assist patients and equipment.
Mental and Communication Skills
- Perform basic math calculations for exam results and charge entry.
- Remember testing protocols and interpret normal/abnormal results.
- Read and interpret medical terminology, protocols, and reports.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Make decisions regarding supply orders and physician notifications based on exam findings.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to diseases, foul odors, and hazardous chemicals.
- Must be able to work in stressful situations.
- Sitting for long periods required.
Additional Notes
- Must complete departmental orientation and annual in-service education for age-specific care.
- Participate in hospital performance improvement projects as applicable.
- Confirm two forms of patient identification before exams (name and date of birth).
- Maintain professional code of conduct and scope of practice.
