Located midway between the North and the South, Baltimore is one of the oldest cities in the U.S. and the nation's capital for a short time during the Revolutionary War. It was here, at Fort McHenry, where Francis Scott Key saw the American flag flying overhead, inspiring him to pen The Star-Spangled Banner. The Inner Harbor is one of the most popular areas, housing museums, restaurants, nightlife hotspots and one of the city's top attractions, the National Aquarium. It hosts some 660 animal species, including Bottlenose dolphins and puffins. This area also boasts many shopping and dining venues, and from here, you can catch a water taxi for a fun and different way to see the sites.
