Specialty

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Required Years of Experience: 18 months (1.5 years) in specialty
• Registered Nurse (RN) license, MultiState required
• BLS Certification required

Experience & Skills

• Must be able to read cardiac strips
• IV insertion, PICC line management
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Common skills:

  • PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia) management
  • Central line management
  • Tracheotomy care
  • Ostomy management
  • Wound vac care
  • Foley catheter care
  • IV starts and peripheral lab draws
  • Arterial blood draws
  • Dubhoff/NGT placement and management
  • Management of various intravenous drips (cardiac, insulin, heparin) and cardiac monitoring

Unit Details

• Palliative care inpatient unit with 16 beds (palliative/general medicine/surgery)
• Staffing ratio: 1 RN to 5 patients
• Primary patient population: Symptom management and/or end-of-life care for patients with cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, pulmonary disease, or neurological disease
• Special procedures on unit: epidurals, ventilators
• Common equipment: wound vac, PCA pumps, epidurals, tracheostomy care
• Use of ancillary staff available
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling
• Travel experience: Travel experience required (indicated by "Travel" in description)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Additional Requirements

• Must pass Relias exams (2 attempts allowed; failure on second attempt results in pre-start cancellation)

This position is ideal for experienced PCU nurses comfortable with complex symptom management and palliative care in a progressive care setting.
