Unit Details

11-bed unit
About 400 deliveries per year
Core staffing is 4 RNs per shift
Typical ratios: 1:1 for labor; 2–3 mom/baby couplets per nurse

Key Responsibilities

Provide care for labor, delivery, postpartum, and antepartum patients
Support C-sections performed on the unit, including care of the baby while the OR team scrubs and circulates
Float as a 1:1 sitter to med/surg, ED, ICU, and Mental Health; no nursing assignment when floating
May occasionally be placed on call if census is low

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Massachusetts
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Labor and Delivery (1 year of experience)
Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
Post Partum experience
NRP
ACLS
AWHONN Basic fetal monitoring

small hospital, one floor divided into 3 pods. 1:5 ratio mostly with 1:6 only after 11pm. Admission nurses available until 11pm. Good team work. Nice management

Cons

No transport at night, short staff, very few intensive providers, small ICU = very few beds. Tons of admits at night. No IV team
