Registered Dietician (Bronx, New York)

Job Summary

  • Monitor patients for and provide education on food/drug interactions.
  • Record food and drug interactions in the education section.
  • Consult with physicians regarding appropriate diet modifications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Screen and assess patients accurately and timely based on levels of care.
  • Determine patients' nutritional needs and status; provide follow-up care.
  • Interview patients and/or families to obtain history of food habits and preferences.
  • Interpret laboratory, physical, and social data relevant to nutrition care.
  • Provide nutrition education and document patient's diet, instructions, and understanding.
  • Modify patient menus as needed.

Contract Length

  • 14 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Dietician (preferred experience is 2 years, which is higher than the minimum 1 year).

Education Requirements

  • Required: Graduate from an accredited college/university with a degree in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition.
  • Preferred: Master's degree.

Certifications & Licensure

  • For Acute care locations: Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (Primary Source Verification required).
  • For Post-Acute Care (Long-Term Care) facilities: New York State Certification issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a “Dietitian-Nutritionist” required at time of hire.
  • Preferred: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Additional Notes

  • Dietitians assigned to Post-Acute Care (Long-Term Care) facilities must comply with Medicare and Medicaid requirements under Section 483.60 of Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations, requiring NYSED certification at hire.

Pros

Decent food options nearby, hospital is clean and has a spacious and beautiful outdoor area for lunch break, pay is good, lab is very clean and organized, coworkers were nice.

Cons

I worked all three shifts, contract extension was very last minute, neighborhood is kind of rough, communication from manager was lacking.
