Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Contract
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care within the scope of supportive and restorative care, medication administration, and specialized tasks under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed physician/dentist. Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver nursing care in structured and routine situations without scientific complexity.
- Assist with activities of daily living.
- Administer treatments and routine tasks such as suctioning and urinary catheterizations.
- Prepare patients for surgery, diagnostic tests, treatments, and examinations.
- Administer medications within scope of practice.
- Collect, label, and process specimens accurately.
- Identify and set up intravenous equipment and deliver solutions through peripheral access devices.
- Administer blood or blood products (with special training).
- Report observations, treatments, medications, incidents, and accidents to the Registered Nurse and document appropriately.
- Contribute to nursing care plans in collaboration with nursing staff.
- Reinforce patient and family teaching as identified by the RN.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families/significant others.
- Assist with patient rehabilitation according to the nursing care plan.
- Ensure physical comfort and safety of patients.
- Participate in patient care conferences.
- Assist in emergency resuscitative procedures, including initiating emergency calls and performing Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
Required Qualifications
- Valid LPN/LVN license in New York.
- Completion of an educational program for LPN licensure, or successful completion of the New York State Department of Health LPN IV Therapy Initial Program for competence in intravenous therapy and blood administration as part of Centralized Orientation, or successful completion of an annual unit-based review and update program in intravenous therapy procedures.
- Minimum of 1 year of Long Term Care experience within the last year.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Competence in IV Therapy.
