Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist will work in accordance with evidence-based policies and procedures of OSF Healthcare. The role involves providing respiratory therapy to patients of all ages, with a focus on adult patients. Responsibilities include administering medical gases, medications, airway clearance, and mechanical ventilation, as well as monitoring supplies and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory skills in accordance with the Illinois Respiratory Therapy Practice Act.
• Deliver respiratory care activities as ordered by licensed healthcare professionals.
• Conduct life-sustaining interventions during emergencies, including Rapid Response calls and Blue Alerts.
• Manage mechanical ventilation and administer aerosolized medications.
• Assess patient responses to therapy and document interventions in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in ICUs and intermediate units.

Basic Qualifications

• Successful completion of a respiratory therapy program from an accredited institution.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Illinois.
• Basic electronic medical record documentation skills.
• Current American Heart BLS certification.

Physical & Mental Requirements

• Ability to lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
• Manual dexterity and effective communication skills.
• Ability to push/pull respiratory equipment and position patients.

Additional Information

• Candidates must be aware that OSF is a Drug-Free Campus and must pass a negative drug screen.
