Ophthalmology Technician (Days)

Location: Avon, Colorado

Job Description

The Ophthalmic Technician will collaborate with the ophthalmology team to provide patient care by performing various eye-related clinical tasks. This role supports providers by assisting with examinations, procedures, and other patient care activities to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist providers and clinical staff with exams, procedures, and direct patient care tasks
• Prepare patients for scheduled procedures
• Perform ophthalmologic tests such as:

  • Visual acuity
  • Applanation tonometry
  • Pachymetry
  • Visual fields
  • Corneal topography
  • OCTs (Optical Coherence Tomography)
  • Lensometry
  • Other tests as directed
• Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, ocular/medical history, family history, allergies, and medications; ensure accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Assist with patient pre-op and post-op counseling, procedure setup, and in-office procedures
• Professionally field patient phone calls
• Calibrate and maintain diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer guidelines
• Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments; maintain examination room cleanliness and supply stock
• Arrange provider-ordered diagnostic or therapeutic services
• Complete shift opening and closing procedures
• Follow departmental policies, OSHA regulations, infection control standards, and HIPAA compliance
• Demonstrate organizational values and promote a Just Culture

Required Qualifications

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) – required
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) – preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required
