Ophthalmology Technician (Days)
Location: Avon, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract

Shift: Days (4x10 schedule)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week

Job Description
The Ophthalmic Technician will collaborate with the ophthalmology team to provide patient care by performing various eye-related clinical tasks. This role supports providers by assisting with examinations, procedures, and other patient care activities to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist providers and clinical staff with exams, procedures, and direct patient care tasks
- Prepare patients for scheduled procedures
- Perform ophthalmologic tests such as:
- Visual acuity
- Applanation tonometry
- Pachymetry
- Visual fields
- Corneal topography
- OCTs (Optical Coherence Tomography)
- Lensometry
- Other tests as directed
- Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, ocular/medical history, family history, allergies, and medications; ensure accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Assist with patient pre-op and post-op counseling, procedure setup, and in-office procedures
- Professionally field patient phone calls
- Calibrate and maintain diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer guidelines
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments; maintain examination room cleanliness and supply stock
- Arrange provider-ordered diagnostic or therapeutic services
- Complete shift opening and closing procedures
- Follow departmental policies, OSHA regulations, infection control standards, and HIPAA compliance
- Demonstrate organizational values and promote a Just Culture
Required Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) – required
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT) – preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required
