Job Opportunity: Retail Pharmacist

Location: Alturas, California
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8-hour days, Monday through Friday
Hours per Week: 36


Position Summary

The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for managing all aspects of retail pharmaceutical services, including procurement, distribution, storage, and administration of medications. The role ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pharmacist license in California
  • Minimum of 1 year of pharmacist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Specific Competencies

  • Compound and dispense prescribed medications accurately.
  • Review prescriptions for accuracy and determine necessary formulas and ingredients.
  • Supervise pharmacy staff involved in mixing, packaging, and labeling medications.
  • Counsel pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage when requested.
  • Engage patients in pharmacy customer service and program offerings.
  • Maintain quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Enter and maintain accurate pharmacy records, including patient and medication data.
  • Instruct interns and pharmacy personnel, ensuring compliance with pharmacist-to-technician/intern ratios.
  • Resolve third-party prescription rejections promptly.
  • Report prescription errors immediately and follow medication incident policies.
  • Implement loss prevention controls to minimize profit loss.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Pursue ongoing training and stay current with pharmacy laws, regulations, and programs.
  • Manage difficult or emotional customer situations professionally and maintain confidentiality.
  • Maximize sales and control expenses within the retail pharmacy.
  • Ensure pharmacy policies are current and consistently applied.
  • Communicate effectively during changes and unexpected events.
  • Observe safety and security procedures and maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include technician-related tasks depending on staffing.
