Job Opportunity: Alternate Birthing Center Nurse

Location: Bloomington, Illinois
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (LDRP) - Alternate Birthing Center

Contract Details

Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Days: Saturday/Sunday
- Nights: Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Days: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day
- Nights: Memorial Day Eve, July 3rd, Labor Day Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve
Call/Standby: None
Floating: Hospital-wide float as needed for tasking/team nursing model
Orientation: 2-3 shifts depending on traveler

Unit Information

Department: Alternative Birthing Center - LDRP
Beds:
- 12 LDRP rooms (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
- 2 triage rooms
Annual Deliveries: Approximately 700 per year
Patient Ratios:
- Labor: 1:1
- Couplet (mother and newborn): 1:3
Common Patient Types:
- Labor (vaginal and C-section)
- Postpartum care
- Nursery newborns (Level II nursery)
Support Staff:
- Charge RN on each shift (no patient assignment)
- OB techs and unit secretaries (1 each on day shift, 1 OB tech on night shift)
- Neonatology provider in-house 24/7
Equipment:
- CPAP for Level II nursery (RT assists with setup)
- Obix EFM system with Phillips fetal monitors

Requirements & Certifications

Licensure: Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Experience:
- Skilled in labor and delivery
- Preferred skills in all LDRP and nursery areas
Drug Screening: Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (Drug-Free Campus)

Additional Notes

Hospital provides scrubs
No call or standby requirement
Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles
Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)

This position is ideal for nurses experienced in labor and delivery who are comfortable working in a Level II nursery setting and prefer a structured schedule with every other weekend and holiday requirements.
