ICU Float Pool Nurse (CO Springs/Zone 1) - Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length
- 13 weeks

Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years ICU experience if first-time traveler with Epic experience preferred
- Otherwise, must have at least 2 years ICU experience
- Prior travel experience preferred but not strictly required; if first-time traveler, higher experience required
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- Preferred: TNCC
Patient Care & Unit Details
- Nurse:Patient ratio typically 1:1-2 depending on acuity; may flex up to 1:3
- High acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) require 1:1 ratio
- No nurse aides on unit except for sitter needs
- Respiratory Therapist designated for ICU but may not be on unit 24/7; RNs expected to assist with respiratory troubleshooting and management
- RNs must be comfortable titrating critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, insulin, and more
- No tele/monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips
Common Diagnoses/Patient Types
- General ICU patients across multiple ICU specialties
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm
- Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time
- Travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent scheduling
- 6-9 weekend shifts required in each 6-week schedule
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
- Rare call or standby requirements
Floating & Location
- Must float within Zone 1, covering a 60-mile radius around Colorado Springs, including multiple hospitals (no home base facility)
- Floating assignments vary by schedule and will be communicated before start date
- Floating may include ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical Telemetry units
- Travelers responsible for securing housing that allows floating within the full zone
Orientation
- 1-2 days unit/department-specific orientation with a preceptor
- Week of orientation requires clinician to be in-state even if some modules are remote
Dress Code
- Any scrub color allowed
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with high acuity patients, critical drip titration, and flexible floating within a multi-hospital zone. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory if higher ICU experience and Epic skills are met.
