Registered Nurse (Orthopedic) - Night Shift
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Orthopedic department with 43 all-private rooms
- Patient ratios:
- Day shift (12 hr): 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Night shift (12 hr): 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- Patient population includes postoperative orthopedic cases, trauma with fractures, and a wide variety of medical-surgical diagnoses
- House supervisor available 24/7; primary charge RN assigned each shift
- Patient care technicians (PCTs) support the unit with ratios of approximately 1:7-8
- Telemetry monitoring with Phillips telemetry pack monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips themselves
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and heated high flow; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Floating: Travel RNs are first to float occasionally to similar MedSurg floors
- Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed; professional appearance required; tattoos and piercings must be covered
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday night shift)
- No call or standby requirement
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation provided (two sessions)
- 12 non-billable orientation hours
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 1-2 years clinical experience preferred, especially in postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing
- Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Call-off policy allows up to 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
