Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU

Location: Durango, Colorado
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Overview

• Work in ICU and Transitional Care Unit (TCU) with exposure to MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, and CCU patient populations.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:1 to 1:2 depending on acuity; may flex up to 1:3.
• High acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) require 1:1 care.
• Responsible for titrating critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, insulin, and more.
• No dedicated nurse aides on unit; sitter support only.
• Respiratory Therapist coverage is designated but not 24/7 on unit; RNs assist with respiratory troubleshooting and management.
• RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips; no telemetry/monitor tech support.
• Schedule is set by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; flexibility required to fill scheduling gaps.
• Weekend shifts: 6-9 per 6-week schedule.
• Holiday rotation participation may be required.
• Rare call or standby requirements for low census.
• Floating may be required within the zone, including ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical Telemetry units.
• Unit orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor.

Required Qualifications

• Current Colorado RN license or Compact RN license.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required.
• If a first-time traveler, 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic electronic health record experience required.
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Comfortable titrating all critical drips.
• Ability to float to other acuity levels within the zone as needed.

Additional Information

• Floating zone covers a 60-mile radius; housing must accommodate this requirement.
• Orientation week requires clinician to be in-state even if some modules are remote.
• Night shift charge nurse is designated but may take patient assignments if necessary.
• Dress code: Any color scrub.

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with solid critical care experience seeking a 13-week night assignment in Colorado with a reputable hospital setting. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory if higher ICU experience and Epic skills are met.
