Unit: Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
Contract Length: 13 weeks

25 beds
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
Common diagnoses:
- MedSurg/Tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures
- Joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
No respiratory therapy equipment troubleshooting required

RN titration of drips: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
Common drips: PCA pumps
Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
Nurse aides/patient care techs available (ratio approx. 1:10-20)
Tele/Monitor techs interpret strips; RNs should have tele awareness but do not read strips independently

Shifts: 0630-1900 (day), 1830-0700 (night)
Travelers will be scheduled; limited block scheduling available
Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday requirement: 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
Floating required to other MedSurg areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for beds

Scrub color for RNs: Navy Blue
Mechanical lifts available in every other room
Emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness
Unit typically has multiple discharges and admissions daily
Successful nurses are those who manage workload well, have good attendance, are team players, friendly, compassionate, and patient-focused
Patient population includes diverse cultures (Spanish, Karen, Burmese)
12-hour night shifts available

Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
Valid driver’s license required at submission
Travel experience preferred but strong candidates without it will be considered
No license or background issues allowed
