ICU RN Job Opportunity - Nebraska, Kearney

Position Details

• Job Title: RN (Registered Nurse)
• Specialty: ICU RN

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: ICU (33 beds, average daily census 16)
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
• Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved

Patient Population & Care

• Common Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
• Floating: Typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
• Nurse Aides: Available based on census; assist with 1:1s or floor support
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents beyond that
• Monitors/Telemetry: RNs required to read, interpret, and document cardiac strips; GE monitors with tele tech oversight

Required Skills & Responsibilities

• RNs must titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, sedation
• Pass/fail RN exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)
• Adherence to fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
• Driver’s license required at submittal to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Additional Requirements

• Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
• No blocked scheduling approved except possibly weekends only
• No duo scheduling or shared car arrangements allowed

Experience Requirements
