ICU RN Job Opportunity - Nebraska, Kearney
Position Details
- Job Title: RN (Registered Nurse)
- Specialty: ICU RN
- Location: Kearney, Nebraska
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: ICU (33 beds, average daily census 16)
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Floating: Typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
- Nurse Aides: Available based on census; assist with 1:1s or floor support
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents beyond that
- Monitors/Telemetry: RNs required to read, interpret, and document cardiac strips; GE monitors with tele tech oversight
Required Skills & Responsibilities
- RNs must titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, sedation
- Pass/fail RN exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)
- Adherence to fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
- Driver’s license required at submittal to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Additional Requirements
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
- No blocked scheduling approved except possibly weekends only
- No duo scheduling or shared car arrangements allowed
Experience Requirements
