Labor and Delivery RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced Labor and Delivery RN in Bakersfield, California.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours, 36 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of Labor and Delivery experience.
• Active BLS.
• Active ACLS.
• Active NRP.
• Active Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification.
• Active CA License.

Unit / Assignment Details

• Unit includes 18 LDRP rooms, 6 triage spaces, 8 overflow beds shared with med surg, and 2 OR rooms.
• Nurses self-circulate in the 2 OR rooms.
• The assignment covers L&D, recovery, postpartum, women’s health, antepartum, C-section, and women’s health overflow care.
• High risk OB patients are included.
• Transfers out occur for major maternal or fetal complications, including major maternal cardiac issues or when a baby needs surgery.
• Approximate volume is 250 births per month.
• Ratios follow CA state guidelines.
• OB and anesthesia are in house 24/7.
• RT is available 24/7.
• Level 2 NICU is in house.
• NICU charge nurse and RT attend all high risk deliveries.
• No elective deliveries under 39 weeks.
• The unit uses Cerner, fetal links, and HUGS for infant security.
• Fetal monitoring is removed from Tele.
• Nurses must be able to start their own IVs.
• Call may be required as standby when census needs it, with a 30-minute response time if called in.
• Weekend requirement is 4 weekend shifts every 2 weeks.
• Holidays: must work one major and one minor holiday.
• Scrubs are provided for L&D, but navy blue scrubs are also required.
• Orientation includes 3 shifts on the unit, GNOSIS online training, and training with perinatology safety specialists.
• First to float.

Preferred

• Cerner charting experience.
