Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Mountain Home, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (7a-7p), primarily days
Weekend Requirement: Minimum 5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days)
Holiday Requirement: As needed
Orientation: Two 12-hour unit-specific shifts with a preceptor

Unit Details

• Medical Surgical unit with 10 beds, expandable to 18
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4; average 1:5; up to 1:6 rarely
• Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics
• Common diagnoses: pneumonia, CHF, COPD, hysterectomy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, asthma exacerbation, elevated bilirubin in babies, rehab (swing bed) patients
• Charge nurse may occasionally take a 1:2 assignment; travelers may serve as charge nurse or preceptor
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:10
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and occasional high flow (ventilators managed by RT)
• Remote telemetry techs monitor cardiac rhythms; RN ability to read strips preferred
• Floating may be required to Labor & Delivery or Emergency Department for assistance

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license
• Minimum 2 years recent Medical Surgical nursing experience
• BLS certification required
• ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications preferred/required
• Ability to titrate drips is rare but may include insulin and antibiotics

Additional Information

• Scrub color and patterns are flexible; scrubs provided but not mandatory
• Scheduling managed by manager with attempts to block night shifts together
• Staff allowed to swap shifts
• No call or standby requirement
• Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for candidates’ permanent address verification prior to profile review
