Location

  • Norfolk, Nebraska

Contract

  • 13 weeks
  • 36 hours per week
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Days or nights

Required Qualifications

  • Active BLS certification
  • 1 year of medical-surgical experience
  • Experience with bedside shift report
  • Able to take a 1:6 patient ratio
  • Able to titrate drips
  • Experience with the shift being worked
  • First-time travelers accepted

Unit Details

  • Medical-surgical unit with 38 beds
  • Typical patient population includes adults and possibly older teens
  • Common cases include pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory virus, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, spinal surgery, and urology
  • Patient ratio is 1:5-6 on days and nights
  • High turnover on days; discharges may be followed by admissions

Schedule

  • No self-scheduling
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated
  • Weekend coverage as needed
  • Holiday coverage as needed
  • Call or standby may be required for low census or cancellations

Clinical Support

  • Cardiac tech available 24/7
  • Nursing supervisor available 24/7
  • Respiratory therapy support available 24/7
  • Nurse aides available with support for accuchecks and vital signs

Floating

  • May float to IMCU for medical-surgical assignments

Orientation

  • 1.5 shifts of unit-specific orientation

  • Navy blue scrubs
