Special Procedures Tech (Interventional Radiology Tech) - Travel Position

Location: Wichita, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel


Unit Information

  • Department: Interventional Radiology (IR) / Vascular Radiology
  • Shift: Day shift, 8 or 10 hours, Monday-Friday plus rotating call and weekend call
  • Unit Setup:
    • 5 Bay holding room
    • 3 IR procedure rooms
    • 3 CT procedure rooms
  • Staffing:
    • 5 nurses
    • 5 Radiologic Technologists (RTs)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • 1:1 during procedures
    • 3-4 patients in holding room depending on acuity
  • Equipment & Documentation:
    • Maclab documentation system
    • Paper charting
    • EMR: Meditech

Job Summary

Provide safe, quality care to inpatient and outpatient imaging patients across the lifespan. Be prepared to critically think and respond during emergencies in diagnostic or interventional imaging procedures. Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and safety.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year IR procedure nursing experience including sedation experience
  • Certifications: ARRT Certification, BLS
  • ACLS and PALS certifications required

Role-Specific Competencies

  • Utilize nursing process for imaging patients of all ages
  • Knowledge of radiologic procedures and exams
  • Safely administer sedation/analgesia and monitor patient response under physician direction, including:
    • Continuous cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia recognition/treatment
    • Continuous vital sign and ETCO2 monitoring
    • Documentation of sedation records
    • Recognition and management of sedation adverse events
    • Knowledge of sedation medications and reversal agents
    • Ability to rescue patients on sedation continuum
  • Knowledge and management of contrast administration and reactions
  • Care and identification of venous access devices; assist with IV access
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure education with documentation
  • Collaborate with medical, technical, and support staff
  • Perform daily job duties per facility policies
