Job Opportunity: Special Procedures Tech (Interventional Radiology Tech)

Location: Wichita, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Unit Information

• Department: Interventional Radiology / Imaging Services - Vascular Radiology
• Shift: Day shift, 8 or 10 hours, Monday to Friday, plus rotating call and weekend call
• Unit Setup:

  • 5 Bay holding room
  • 3 room IR suite
  • 3 room CT suite
• Staffing:

  • 5 nurses
  • 5 RTs
• Patient Ratios:

  • 1:1 during procedures
  • 3-4 patients in holding room depending on acuity
• Equipment & Documentation:

  • Maclab documentation and paper charting
  • EMR system: Meditech

Job Summary

Provide safe, quality care to inpatients and outpatients across the lifespan within the imaging environment. The role requires critical thinking during unexpected emergencies in diagnostic or interventional procedures.

Modalities include:

• Diagnostic Radiology
• MRI
• CT
• Nuclear Medicine
• Ultrasound
• Interventional Radiology (IR) / Vascular Interventional Radiology
• Procedural Prep and Recovery

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Specialty: Interventional Radiology Tech / Imaging Nurse
• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in IR procedure nursing, including sedation experience
• Certifications:

  • ARRT Certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Skills:

  • ACLS and PALS certifications required
  • Ability to safely administer sedation/analgesia and monitor patient response
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia recognition, vital signs monitoring, ETCO2 monitoring
  • Ability to recognize and manage sedation adverse events and rescue patients as necessary
  • Knowledge of contrast administration and management of contrast reactions
  • IV access skills and ability to assist technologists with IV access
  • Pre- and post-procedure patient education and documentation
  • Collaborative teamwork with medical, technical, and support staff

• Neuro coiling cases
