Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Orientation:
    • Held at Providence Office Park Building near Portland Medical Center
    • Occurs every other Monday (specific 2025 dates provided)
    • Clinicians must be willing to float to any selected Providence locations within the region
    • Location assignment is given 2 hours before shift confirmation; refusal to float is considered a late cancellation

  • Providence Milwaukie Hospital (59 Beds, Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital)
  • Providence Portland Medical Center (420 Beds, Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital)
  • Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center (536 Beds, Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital)
  • Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center (109 Beds, Short Term Acute Care)
  • Providence Newberg Medical Center (60 Beds, Short Term Acute Care/Level IV Trauma Center)
  • Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital (25 Beds, Critical Access/Level III Trauma Center)
  • Providence Seaside Hospital (25 Beds, Critical Access Hospital)

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience in specialty
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA certified)
    • ACLS (AHA certified)
    • PALS (AHA certified)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU, ER, Tele, PCU RNs)
  • EPIC experience required
  • Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting (Charge RNs acceptable if direct supervisors)
  • Separation policy: 3 months from staff to agency

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS, ACLS, PALS (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certified)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) for L&D and NICU RNs
  • Not Required for Per Diem:
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
    • Specialty-specific competency exams may be required (e.g., Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring for L&D RNs)

Health & Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations and screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (masking may be required if declined)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or declination (required if onsite)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Fit mask testing (not required for Per Diem effective 5/20/24)
  • Background check within 45 days of start (25 days for Per Diem), covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Additional state-specific background checks as applicable (Oregon Abuse/Neglect Search not required for Per Diem)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Agency badge required
  • Professional passport-style photo for badge (neutral background, recent within 6 months)
  • Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp modules prior to start:
    • Oregon Core Modules for RNs/LPNs
    • Specialty-specific modules as applicable (ER, ICU, L&D, etc.)
    • Annual regulatory modules required
  • EPIC training modules must be completed within one week of orientation
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment
  • Education verification required (nursing degree for RNs/LVNs)
  • References and skills checklists as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Clinicians must be flexible to float within the Providence Oregon hospital system locations they select
  • Refusal to float or late cancellations may affect assignment status
  • Orientation and training are mandatory and scheduled regularly
  • Compliance with all health, background, and certification requirements is strictly enforced
