PICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Position requires floating to multiple units including NICU, Cardiovascular PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical as needed.
  • Assignments will be appropriate to experience and float expectations must be met.
  • Recent Level 1 PICU experience is required.
  • Candidates with approximately 3 years of PICU experience may be considered even if they are first-time travelers.
  • Two supervisory references are required, including at least one from a supervisor or manager. Peer references are not accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including recent Level 1 PICU experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Certifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA certification only.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA certification only.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA/AAP certification required for NICU float.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - as applicable.
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) - as applicable.

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search and education verification.
  • Federal and state exclusion lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) checks within 30 days of start.
  • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start, must be updated for each new contract.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 60 days prior to start.
  • Multiple state-specific registry and abuse registry checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent.
  • Sex offender search within 30 days of start.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within the last year, with specific protocols for positive results.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within the last 10 years (no titer substitution).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required for assignments starting between October 31 and May 31; medical/religious exemptions require facility approval and documentation.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion, positive titer, or declination required.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella immunity documentation required (positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal).
  • N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually; specific mask models accepted.
  • Physical exam or signed infection control policy required prior to start.

Additional Requirements

  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
  • Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Affiliating Health Record must be completed and uploaded.
  • Fingerprinting proof of submission required within 24-48 hours of contract signing.
  • Fit test proof of appointment required if fit test is completed onsite.
  • TB questionnaire and fingerprint screening questions must be completed prior to start.
  • Flu exemption policy applies to candidates with approved exemptions; mask-wearing required during flu season.

Work Hours

  • 36 hours per week, scheduled as three 12-hour night shifts.

This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs willing to float across pediatric critical care and related units, with strong compliance to licensure, certification, and health screening requirements.
