Job Description

A healthcare facility in Santa Barbara, CA is seeking a Perfusionist to join their team as soon as possible. The position involves working in a cardiovascular operating room environment with a high volume of heart surgeries (approximately 400 per year), including advanced aortic arch repair and grafting procedures (types A and B).

Key Responsibilities & Requirements:

• ECMO and independent ECMO cannulation experience is a mandatory requirement.
• Cell saver experience is also a mandatory requirement.
• Experience in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), General Operating Room (OR), and Level 1 Trauma is required.
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics.
• Shift schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts from 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM (first case starts at 7:15 AM unless urgent/emergent).
• On-call required with a response time within 15 minutes; call schedule alternates with the chief perfusionist.
• Weekend call every other weekend and overnight call rotates weekly.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of perfusion experience, including recent perfusionist experience within the last year.
• Experience as a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist.
• Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association in:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
• ECMO experience, including independent ECMO cannulation.
• Cell saver experience.

Additional Requirements

• Completion of a criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
• Drug screening (10-panel, including marijuana) within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination during flu season (September - April).
• Respirator clearance and fit testing as required.
• Harassment prevention training certificate (required for California).
• Professional references (2 within last 2 years).
• Photo for badge (shoulders up, plain background, no filters).
• Completion of facility-specific job description and policies acknowledgment.

• Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers will be considered if they meet the unit criteria.
• This role requires the ability to respond quickly to on-call situations and work in a high-acuity surgical environment.
