Job Opportunity: Occupational Health Registered Nurse
Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with at least 3 years of acute care experience (occupational health experience preferred) to provide employee health services including assessments, case management, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Schedule
- Monday – Friday
- 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- 24-40 hours per week
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct employee health assessments and treatment per policy
- Provide preventative health education and wellness promotion
- Manage employee health records and documentation
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims and New York State disability benefits administration
- Manage FMLA/PFL case tracking and renewals
- Coordinate return-to-work programs including light duty assignments
- Facilitate new hire fit-for-duty processes (physicals, drug testing, immunizations)
- Conduct annual health screenings (e.g., PPD, FIT testing)
- Participate in safety and workers’ compensation meetings
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Use electronic health records and reporting systems for documentation and case tracking
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 3 years of acute care nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with workers’ compensation claims management
- Experience with FMLA and disability case management
- Experience coordinating return-to-work programs
- Strong clinical skills in employee health assessment and triage
- Proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases while maintaining confidentiality and compliance
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- Active RN license with primary source verification prior to start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, AHA preferred
- May require ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM, or other specialty certifications depending on unit assignment (verify as applicable)
- Pass/fail telemetry assessment on cardiac rhythm interpretation may be required on first day of orientation for certain units
- Annual stroke education and NIH Stroke Scale training may be required depending on assignment
- Background checks including SSN trace, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG clearance prior to start
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam completed within 12 months prior to start, signed by licensed provider
- Fit mask test within 12 months and updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, T-Spot, or chest x-ray if prior positive)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within last 10 years or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine records or declination
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific documents including code of conduct, patient abuse reporting, confidentiality agreements, and orientation acknowledgements
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Two professional references within 3 years of hire
- Skills checklist completion required
- Compliance with New York State Nurse Aide Registry and Medicaid Exclusion List requirements
