Registered Nurse – CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, rotating day and night
    • Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
    • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Schedule includes every other weekend and some holidays
  • No on-call duties

Required Experience & Skills

  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience required
  • Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start (specific to this facility)

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry test (Adult or Pediatric as applicable) must be completed and passed before starting
  • Telemetry test is assigned via the facility’s LMS platform with strict passing criteria:
    • Minimum 80% overall score
    • 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
    • 3 attempts allowed with remediation after 2nd failure
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Annual skills checklist required

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Comprehensive background check within 90 days prior to start, including:
    • Social Security Number trace
    • County and nationwide criminal history
    • Sex offender registry check
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check (BID form) and Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening required per standard clinical guidelines
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing: Negative IGRA blood test or two-step skin test within required timeframes
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – 2 doses or positive titers
    • Varicella – 2 doses or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof required
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology (not typical for RN role)

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Signed acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Telemetry Testing
  • Passport-style photo for badge issuance (no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
  • Medical or religious exemption forms for vaccines must follow facility approval process

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience within the last year
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
