Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Torrance, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per week: 36 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating Requirement: Yes, may float to other PCU units, ICU, and ER
- 4th Shift: May be required as needed
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Basic Arrhythmia Course or equivalent
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks: Standard background check within one year, including SS trace, county searches (last 7 years), nationwide sex offender check, and education verification.
- State-Specific Checks: California Medi-Cal search within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
- Education Verification: Required for highest degree from accredited school; diploma or transcript may be used as placeholder if verification is pending.
- Physical & Health Requirements:
- Fit mask test within one year of start (specific N95 masks required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per guidelines
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (vaccines, titers, or signed declinations)
- Drug testing within one year of start, updated annually (excluding marijuana/THC panel starting 1/1/24)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for 2025-2026 season; no declinations accepted after deadline
- COVID vaccine or facility-specific declination form required
- Competency Exams: Proof of specialty competency test with a minimum score of 80%, updated every 3 years
- Harassment Prevention Training: Required with certificate on file
- Additional Facility-Specific Documents: Must review and sign policies including safety & disaster preparedness, unit job description, float policy (if applicable), confidentiality agreement, standards of behavior, attendance, meal break, fingernail hygiene, conflict of interest, timekeeping acknowledgment, and social media policy prior to start
Additional Notes
- Uniform: Candidates must review uniform information prior to start
- Employment History: Resume or application covering all cities and states lived/worked in past 7 years; gaps over 30 days must be explained
- Driver’s License: Required for Home Health workers (not applicable here)
- Medical or Religious Flu Exemptions: Must be submitted by specified deadlines with proper documentation; not accepted for registry/per diem positions
