Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Cardiac Telemetry unit with adult to geriatric patient population. The role involves managing cardiac drips, diuretics, anticoagulants, insulin drips, and providing care for patients with arrhythmias, cardiac conditions, renal and pulmonary issues, surgical post-op care, and occasional vascular, orthopedic, or stroke patient overflow.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Cardiac Telemetry
- Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty; first-time travelers not accepted
- Prior Travel Experience: Required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse license in Georgia
- Skills:
- Experience managing continuous IV medications including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin, Bumex, Lasix, Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin, and insulin drips
- Knowledge of arrhythmia management, cardioversion, CHF, chest pain, renal and pulmonary conditions (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT, post cardiac cath care, TR Bands, DKA, and basic arrhythmia interpretation
- Competency Exams: Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with up to 3 attempts allowed
Work Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- Unit Size: 32 beds
- Typical Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend, with travelers filling in gaps after permanent staff scheduling
- Floating: May float within the facility as needed within scope of practice
- Call: Rare; 2-hour response time if called
- Holidays: Travelers expected to work major holidays if they fall within the assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
- Electronic Systems: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, SBAR
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrub color
Compliance and Onboarding
- Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to orientation scheduling
- Maximum return-to-office (RTO) time is 7 days per contract
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length
Required Documentation and Health Requirements
- Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including county, national, sex offender, criminal, and education verifications
- Education Verification: Degree verification required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
- Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
- Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screen acceptable
- Immunizations and Titers:
- TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or chest x-ray if positive history
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
- TDAP highly recommended but not required
- References: Two clinical references required
- Skills Checklist: Updated within 12 months
- Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
Additional Notes
- Travelers typically do not administer Precedex; this is managed by core staff
- Clinical screening will be conducted to determine fit before final manager approval
- Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Color blind testing is required; alternative assessments available for blood collection tasks if needed
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with cardiac telemetry experience who has prior travel contract experience and is comfortable managing complex cardiac patients during night shifts in a fast-paced hospital setting.
