Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks (option for 26 weeks)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (option for 4 shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Patient Ratio: 1:1


Job Description

  • Care for childbearing women and newborns in antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn units.
  • Work in a high-risk Level 3 Perinatal center with approximately 70% complex high-risk patients.
  • Facility includes a Level 4 NICU (regional center).
  • Approximately 150 births per month.
  • Unit includes 2 operating rooms for C-sections, BTLs, and postpartum D&Cs.
  • Second L&D RN acts as "baby catcher" for well, non-compromised babies.
  • Floating within the hospital required; no floating to sister hospitals.
  • Weekend work required.
  • No call responsibilities.
  • Block scheduling accommodations not available.
  • Locals and first-time travelers accepted.
  • Pending license accepted with restrictions (max 1 week RTO).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State (pending license accepted).
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year required.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and state-specific searches.
  • Education verification or diploma/transcript required.
  • Physical exam and 10-panel drug screen required (Aya requirement).
  • Fit mask test within 9-12 months of start; onsite PAPR testing available if fit test failed.
  • Immunizations and titers required or declinations accepted with documentation for:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series completion or declination with waiver)
    • Varicella (vaccines or titer; history of disease not accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination during flu season (Sept-April)
    • COVID vaccination or declination for tracking purposes
  • Competency exams required including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and others as per unit.
  • EPIC/Alaris integration video and attestation required prior to start.
  • Facility-specific training such as Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Training required for L&D RNs.
  • Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington.
  • Department checklist and PCIS agreement must be completed prior to start.
  • Photo for badge required (DMV style, no selfies).

Work Environment and Facility Highlights

  • Magnet-designated, teaching hospital with Level 3 Perinatal and Level 4 NICU.
  • Total staffed beds: 637.
  • Charting system: EPIC.
  • Scrub color: Any (scrubs provided for OR personnel).
  • Parking cost: Approximately $10.26 daily.

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed hours: In case of low census, providers may be called off without charge or placed on-call for up to one shift worth of hours in a two-week cycle.
  • Ambulatory or surgical areas closed on weekends/holidays will not schedule travelers during those times.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity labor and delivery unit with a focus on complex maternal-fetal care in a well-respected teaching hospital environment.
