Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Overview

• Work primarily in the Main Operating Room (OR) with adult to geriatric patient population.
• Procedures exclude Neurosurgery, Labor & Delivery, Endoscopy, Cardiothoracic surgeries, and complex surgeries like Whipples or liver ablations.
• Majority (~95%) of procedures are outpatient with same-day discharge.
• Surgical specialties include:

  • Total joints (knees, shoulders, hips)
  • Spine surgeries (lumbar fusions, PLIFs, ALIFs, kyphoplasties, stimulators, decompressions, ACDFs)
  • Sports medicine (ACLs, tendon repairs)
  • Podiatry
  • General and laparoscopic surgeries (cholecystectomies, hernias, thyroids, mastectomies with reconstruction, lymph node biopsies)
  • Colorectal
  • Robotics (Urology, General, GYN, Colorectal with DaVinci XI)
  • Vascular (carotids, fistulas, femoral-popliteal bypasses, EVARs)
  • Urology (cystoscopies, stents, TURPs, prostate biopsies, penile implants, percutaneous nephrectomies)
• ENT procedures are performed in an outpatient surgery center.
• Minimal gynecological surgeries on-site.

Patient Ratio & Unit Systems

• 7 operating rooms with an average daily census of 20-25 patients.
• Electronic systems used: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR.

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Blocked schedule: Friday through Sunday (weekends).
• Weekend work every other weekend unless otherwise specified.
• Rare floating required.
• Minimal call requirements due to in-house teams covering weekends and nights.
• Holiday work expectations:

  • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it.
  • If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both.
  • If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work two.
• Major holidays include New Year’s Eve/Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day.
• Return to Office (RTO) maximum 7 days.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
• Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including:

  • National sex offender registry
  • Nationwide criminal search
  • Education verification
• Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
• Physical exam within 12 months of start required.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or negative chest X-ray if prior positive.
  • TB questionnaire updated annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters as needed.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters as needed.
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required.
• Drug screen panels include Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Methadone, Phencyclidine, Propoxyphene, THC.
• Annual NURSYS license verification within 30 days prior to start.
• Skills checklist updated within 12 months.
• Work history verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.
• Two clinical references required.
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam required.
• Color blindness testing required; alternative assessment available if needed.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for telemetry or critical care areas (if applicable).

• Scrub color provided by facility.
• Locals accepted at same rate.
• Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
• Full compliance with all facility policies including dress code and code of conduct required prior to start.
• Clinical screening and final manager approval required before assignment confirmation.
