Pathologist Assistant - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Contract Length: 6 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5 days/week, 40 hours/week)

Job Description

• Perform complete dissection, gross description, and selection/submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies (e.g., flow cytometry, immunohistochemical staining).
• Work under the direction of pathologists, maintaining high ethical standards and integrity.
• Photograph gross and microscopic specimens.
• Assist in preparing educational conferences and provide training to pathology personnel, including residents and medical students.
• Serve as liaison to other departments and laboratories to ensure quality healthcare.
• Maintain pathology protocols, procedures, reports, and data.

Required Qualifications

• Pathologists' Assistant certification from ASCP.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant, with experience within the last year.
• Associate's degree in Biological, Chemical, or a related Laboratory Science, or a Bachelor of Science degree.

Required Documents & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License or State ID.
• Background checks including national criminal, state and county searches (10 years), SSN trace, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
• Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date.
• Missouri EDL Search within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually).
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (includes multiple drug panels).
• Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity/declination for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt).
• Negative TB test (PPD, Q-Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year, updated annually; if positive, chest x-ray and questionnaire required.
• References: 2 professional references within 3 years.
• Employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification.

Additional Requirements

• Primary source verification of PA certification within 30 days of start.
• Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing as applicable.
• Completion of facility-specific confidentiality agreement, code of conduct, and demographic forms prior to start.

Notes

• No prior travel experience is explicitly required.
• This position is strictly day shift with standard 8-hour days.
• The role involves interaction with multiple departments and educational responsibilities.
