Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Travel/Contract)

- Contract length: 13 weeks minimum
Work Schedule
- Night shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 to 7:30)
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hour shifts available
- Weekend work required as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights)
- Floating: May float to Adult PCUs (expected), optional float to Pediatric ED, ED Holding, and Trauma Department of Emergency
Unit & Patient Population
- Emergency Department with approximately 60%-80% admitted patients
- Level I Trauma center
- Exposure to trauma and admitted holds common
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
- Will consider candidates with 1.5 years experience
- Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Prior travel experience strongly preferred but not mandatory if candidate has 2+ years Level I Trauma experience
- First-time travelers accepted
Licensure & Certifications
- New Mexico RN license required; pending license accepted at time of submission
- Must have TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification before submission
- Required certifications (AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance due date before start)
- Additional certifications that may be required or preferred depending on unit:
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB/MOAB) for Behavioral Health units
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for ED and related units; must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section; two attempts allowed before cancellation
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Medication administration including IV medications following the seven medication rights
- Documentation and communication of clinical findings
- Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs
Licensure & Background Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Background check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, federal criminal, education verification, and county searches
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Education verification required; diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
- Immunizations required:
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: series, titer, or declination accepted
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted for personal reasons
- COVID vaccine no longer required but must upload series or declination for reporting
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within three years of hire
- Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history
- Skills checklist required
- Work history verification for 3 years required, including detailed verification information
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)
- Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement currently not required due to crisis credentialing
Other Details
- No locals accepted within 100 miles radius
- Overtime paid after 48 hours worked (for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025)
- Guaranteed contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences greater than 7 days require approval
- New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks
- Six-month break required after 4 consecutive assignments or one year of cumulative work, whichever comes first

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma, teaching, and children’s hospital environment with a diverse patient population in the Emergency Department. Candidates with strong trauma experience and required certifications are encouraged to apply.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
