Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ortho RN / Med Surg)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Ortho RN preferred; MS RNs with good Ortho experience accepted)
- Unit: 38 bed unit
- Shift: Nights (1845-0645), either 4x12 or 3x12 shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Work every third weekend
- Floating: May float within scope to other Med Surg departments as needed
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- License: Must have an active Illinois nursing license (no pending licenses accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Experience & Certifications
- Required Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
- Special Skills:
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required (PICC line management, starting IVs)
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred

- Trauma Level: Level I trauma center
- Magnet Status: Magnet hospital/facility
- Total Staffed Beds: 562 beds
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Additional Requirements
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
- References: Two professional references required for clinical candidates
- Photo for Badge: Required within one week of signing contract
- Code of Conduct: Must review and sign within 7 days of contract signing
- Parking Permit Form: Must review and sign within 7 days of contract signing (if applicable)
Notes
- No on-call requirement
- Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs
- Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Candidates must be able to work nights and every third weekend
- Floating to other Med Surg departments may be required within scope of practice
This position is ideal for RNs with solid Ortho or Med Surg experience looking for a travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
