Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Easton, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Start Date: January 5, 2026
Shift: Monday to Friday, 5x8 hour shifts, alternating evenings and nights

• Evening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
• Night shift: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Flexibility required to rotate between evening and night shifts if possible
  Weekends: Not required
  Holidays: Required as scheduled
  On-Call: Not required
  Floating: May be required within the department

Specialty & Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of MLS experience (higher value confirmed)
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted with strong experience; prior travel experience not required
• Licenses/Certifications:

  • ASCP certification required
  • ASCP-MLS and BLS preferred

Required Credentials & Compliance

• Licenses:

  • State License primary source verification required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • Other certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) as applicable per unit/job description
• Background Checks:

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex screening)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season
  • COVID vaccine not required for this location, but documentation collected for tracking
  • Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30-90 days of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask models required)

Competency & Facility Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (80% or higher) as applicable
• Color blindness testing required for all candidates
• Age-specific competency exam required for all, including CNAs
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for most units except MLS and some others
• Photo for badge (passport style with solid background)
• Facility-specific documents and agreements (confidentiality, dress code, orientation info, etc.) must be reviewed and signed prior to start
• Orientation held at 8 AM on Tuesdays at the facility (dress code: Royal Blue scrubs or business casual)

Employment History & References

• Verification of at least 2 years hospital or equivalent acute care experience within the last 5 years required
• Two supervisory references required within 1 year of start
• Agency application/resume must be completed within 30 days of start

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an MLS with at least 2 years of experience. The position requires alternating evening and night shifts Monday through Friday, with no weekend or on-call duties. ASCP certification is required, and first-time travelers are welcome if they have strong experience. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and competency exams is mandatory. Orientation and facility-specific documentation must be completed prior to starting.
