Registered Nurse (RN) - NICU Float Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have 1 year of Level IV NICU experience and 2 years total Level III/IV NICU experience.
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and Ohio State RN License.
- Float requirements:
- Float to PICU, CV PICU, Stepdown, Medical-Surgical (MS), and rarely to Emergency Department (ED).
- Float to Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) NICU, which involves frequent trach care and heavy parent involvement. Average patient length of stay is 2-3 years.
- Float to other campuses primarily including Riverside and St. Ann's.
- Two-part interview process: initial screening with Float Pool Leader, followed by potential interview with NICU Unit Manager.
Required References
- Two professional references required at time of submission.
- At least one reference must be a manager or supervisor (Charge RN acceptable).
- Peer references are not accepted.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP certification only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable.
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - as applicable.
- State RN License verification (Ohio State or Compact RN license required).
- NURSYS verification for RN licenses.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including all counties lived/worked).
- Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if needed.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) required within 60 days of start and must be updated for each new contract.
- Sex offender search, Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, and Ohio State Abuse Registry searches required within 30 days of start.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant acceptable).
- Verification of highest degree and skills competency exams as applicable.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (no longer requires copy of physical, but must be on file).
- N95 Fit Testing within 1 year of start, updated annually. Onsite testing allowed if prior options exhausted.
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start (no titer substitution).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility policy; TB questionnaire required at start and annually.
- Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (declination accepted if titer negative/equivocal)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required October 31 - May 31; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility-specific documentation.
- COVID-19 vaccines are optional; medical/religious exemptions accepted.
Additional Notes
- Legal name on all certifications and licenses must match exactly with RN license (no nicknames or typos).
- Must comply with facility float expectations and assignments.
- Address on driver's license and other documents must match and comply with facility policies (local addresses within 60 miles considered local and may be restricted).
- Code of Conduct and Confidentiality agreements must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Facility-specific infection control policies and fingerprinting proof of submission are required.
