Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level IV Trauma Center, Major Teaching Hospital
Unit: 4S CV Med Tele (Pulmonary/Cardiac Telemetry)
Job Details
- Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (7pm-7am), weekdays, every other weekend required
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric, pulmonary, medicine, cardiac, med/surg
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years cardiac telemetry experience
- First-time Travelers: Accepted if experience requirements are met
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Orientation: Held every other week on Thursday; orientation is 2 days (Thursday and Friday)
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue/White (RN)
- Parking: Free for travelers
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Licensure & Certifications
- License: WV or Compact RN license required (pending license may be submitted)
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (AHA only, no pending or onsite completion allowed)
- ACLS (AHA only, required for this unit)
- Additional Certifications:
- PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, CPI, and others may be required depending on unit (verify with unit job description)
- Pass/Fail Testing: Required for nursing candidates (EKG, Medication Calculation, Blood Administration)
Requirements & Compliance
- References: Minimum 1 reference from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within 1 year
- Skills Checklist: Annual specialty-specific skills checklist required (MS/Tele skills checklist for Clinical Decisions unit)
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
- SSN trace, sex offender search, national and international checks if applicable
- EPLS/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated annually
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year, stating good health and no limitations
- Annual fit mask testing (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205) or PAPR accommodation if needed
- Negative TB test within 3 months or chest X-ray if positive history
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
- COVID-19 vaccine not required (proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted)
Additional Notes
- Holiday Requests: Limit return-to-office (RTO) requests to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
- Schedule Flexibility: Manager cannot guarantee blocked schedule requests
- Travel Radius: 100-mile radius rule applies; exceptions require facility approval
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week guaranteed
- Flu Season Compliance: Candidates refusing flu vaccine without medical proof will not be accepted during flu season
- Return to Facility: Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked
Orientation & Training
- Orientation includes Cerner Infusion Management and other facility-specific training
- Candidates must complete required inservice training modules and pass associated tests prior to start
- Review of facility policies such as blood administration, dress code, math calculation for medication administration, and EKG review required before start
