Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: Primarily Oncology, with float to BMT Unit as needed


Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Patient Ratio: Average 1:3
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: Yes
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes (with restrictions on Return to Office >7 days)

Required Certifications

  • Chemotherapy Administration Certification (ONS for Oncology; APHON required for Pediatric Oncology)
  • APHON Certification (required)
  • BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • ACLS (AHA or ARC)
  • PALS (AHA or ARC) - Not required for Pediatric Stepdown
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for NICU
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Required for Labor & Delivery RNs
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU
  • State RN License (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS Verification (within 30 days of start)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024; must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICUs except Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year Criminal Background Check (updated annually) including SSN Trace, Counties Lived/Worked, Statewide, National Sex Offender, National Criminal, Federal Extended
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM Check (within 30 days of start)
  • HHS/OIG Check (within 30 days of start)
  • Education Verification (highest level required; official transcripts if third-party verification unavailable)
  • Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation (for internationally educated RNs)
  • Transcript/Diploma (official transcript required if education verification cannot be completed)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam (within 12 months)
  • Fit Mask Test (within 12 months, updated annually; clean shaven required for fit testing)
  • Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray (acceptable tests within 6-12 months)
  • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines
    • Mumps - Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines
    • Rubella - Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines
    • Hepatitis B - Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination (declination valid within 1 year)
    • Varicella - Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history; boosters required if low/equivocal
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap - Highly preferred for Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum (Tdap declination acceptable)
  • Drug Testing - 10 Panel Drug Screen (within 12 months)
  • Seasonal Vaccinations:
    • Flu Vaccine or Medical/Religious Exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID Vaccine Series (preferred)

  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules (except certain hospitals)
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for most clinical roles except some techs and home health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required for RNs and Allied Health)

Additional Requirements

  • Employment Application with 7-year work history and no gaps >90 days
  • Skills Checklist (within 12 months)
  • Work History Verification (last 7 years, no attestations)
  • Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure (for specific tech and specialty roles)
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (required for all RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • EPIC Testing or Training (highly encouraged for those with Epic experience)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption Form (if applicable)

Notes

  • Float to Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit as needed
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions apply for absences longer than 7 days
  • Parking cost approximately $125/month
