Job Opportunity: Med Surg/Telemetry Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Assignment Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (3x12s)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Floating: Required as per facility needs

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of recent Med Surg/Telemetry nursing experience (within the past year)
  • Higher years of experience not indicated, so 1 year is required
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Required Skills / Competencies

  • Med Surg/Telemetry nursing skills
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)

  • Isolation precautions

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • License: New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA required
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA required
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Additional Requirements and Assessments

  • Background checks including SSN trace, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required prior to start
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by a licensed provider
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine records or declination
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Professional references: 2 within last 3 years
  • Skills checklist required

Orientation and Testing

  • Must pass a telemetry assessment on the first day of orientation with a minimum score of 80% (15-question multiple-choice) covering:
    • Identification of heart blocks, arrhythmias, paced rhythms
    • Understanding telemetry strip intervals
    • Appropriate clinical interventions for arrhythmias
  • If assessment is failed, remediation and retesting will be provided during the first week
  • Nurses are responsible for independently measuring and interpreting telemetry strips as no telemetry technicians are employed

Other Facility Requirements

  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including:
    • Code of Conduct
    • Patient Abuse Reporting
    • Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
    • Orientation Packet Acknowledgement
    • Automated Dispensing Cabinet Security (for Pyxis access)
    • Annual Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire

Call-Off Policy

  • Maximum of 3 call-off shifts allowed during the 13-week assignment
