Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, days
- Work Days: Weekdays and some weekends, rotating holidays
- Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience (highest requirement)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only; Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- IV Start and Telemetry skills required
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
- Prior travel experience preferred (not required)
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
Licensure & Verification
- Valid nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire in lieu)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of PCU experience, required certifications (BLS, ACLS), and EPIC experience. The role involves working 3 twelve-hour day shifts per week with some weekend and holiday rotations, floating between units of similar or lower acuity. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory. Comprehensive background checks, health screenings, and compliance training are required before starting.
