Unit: 24-bed Orthopedic Unit
Job Description
- Care for postoperative adult patients recovering from Orthopedic, Total Joint Replacement, Podiatry, and Spine surgeries
- Patient-to-nurse ratio up to 6:1
- Length of stay varies based on surgery and discharge needs
- Previous post-orthopedic surgery nursing experience preferred
- ACLS certification required
Employment Details
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- Current RN license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
- ACLS required
- Pharmacology Exam (Ascension-specific) with minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years
- Medical Surgical Exam (Ascension-specific) with minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years
- EKG Exam (Ascension-specific) with minimum 80% score
- Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics) completed within a year and updated yearly
- Skills Checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually
- Ascension-specific onboarding and education attestations
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
- Influenza Vaccine: Recommended during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations accepted with mask requirement
- TB Testing: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire
- Fit Test for respiratory protection, updated annually
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must not be expired and address must match records)
- Drug Screen: 12-panel urine drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
- Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others, updated annually
- Employment and Education Verification within 90 days prior to start
- Professional references (at least two) required prior to first assignment
- Ascension Profile and Confirmation of Assignment documentation
Notes
- All exams and certifications must be completed with a minimum passing score (usually 80%) and within specified timeframes
- Some requirements must be updated annually or every 3 years depending on the credential
- Onsite completion of some onboarding steps is required
- Flu vaccine declinations require mask-wearing during flu season
