Unit Details

• Unit Name: Level 2B - Special Care Nursery
• Unit Description: 25-bed unit including Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum (PP), Newborn Nursery (NBN), 2 Operating Rooms (ORs), 2 Antepartum Nursery (ANU) rooms, and Recovery Room (RR)
• Patient Population: All newborns and mothers
• Bed Count: 5 Labor & Delivery rooms, 12 Postpartum beds, 2 ORs at RR, 2 ANU rooms with 4 beds
• Average Daily Census: 15-25 mothers, babies, and labor patients
• Clinician to Patient Ratios:

  • L&D: 1:2-3 for evaluations, 1:1 for active labor, magnesium gtt, or epidural
  • PP: 1:3-4

Work Schedule

• Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: Nights & Every Other Weekend (EOW)
• Shift Rotation:

  • Day rotate shifts: 7a-7p, 11a-11p, 7p-7a with 1 night of call
  • Evening and night shifts do not rotate
• Floating: Not required

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Influenza Vaccine (required during flu season, Sept 15 - April 30)

Licensure & Compliance

• Valid nursing license with primary source verification (NURSYS and Board of Nursing required)
• MA Conditional Licenses not accepted
• Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date, updated annually
• TB test or negative QuantiFERON/T-spot within 3 months of start date, updated if >6 month break
• Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date, updated if >6 month break
• Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, National Sex Offender Check, and exclusion checks required and must be current

Additional Requirements

• MGB Medication Exam with 80% passing score within 365 days
• Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city & state
• Two recent references (minimum one supervisor or above in skillset)
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for submission
• Respirator Medical Clearance attestation if fit test required
• Education verification of highest level achieved
