Registered Nurse / Operating Room

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks

Shift and Schedule

• 4x10-hour shifts, 6:45am to 7:15pm (40 hours per week)
• Other shifts may become available at the time of interview, depending on OR vacancies and needs
• Weekend call is required; no regular weekend shift requirement is specified
• On-call is required: approximately 6 weekday call shifts and 2 weekend call rotations
• Block schedule accommodation requests should be sent with the submittal

Unit Details

• Unit: Operating Room, approximately 14 rooms
• Patient population: Adult and geriatric
• Services: General OR, Neuro, Orthopedic, Vascular, and Transplant procedures
• Common procedures: Appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic surgery, thyroidectomy, Whipple procedures, spinal fusion, cervical and lumbar procedures, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, total hip and total knee replacements, fracture procedures, spine cases, carotid procedures, AV fistula repair, femoral-popliteal bypass, and abdominal aortic aneurysm procedures
• Float: Floating within scope to meet facility needs or to float between like units is required
• Scrubs: Provided by the facility
• Charting system: Epic

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Pennsylvania
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 2 years of Operating Room experience
• Operating Room experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Level 1 trauma experience, including experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Neuro experience required, including experience working with Neuro patients
• Vascular experience required
• General Surgery experience required, including experience working with General Surgery patients
• Transplant experience
• Familiarity with total joint surgery procedures

• Experience with high-acuity and trauma surgical cases is expected

Onboarding Requirements

• Background: 7-year criminal check within 90 days of start, updated annually; PA-specific checks (child abuse search, fingerprinting, PATCH search); HHS/OIG and EPLS/GSA/SAM checks upon hire
• Health: Physician physical exam statement within 2 months of start; TB test (Gold or T-Spot within 90 days) or negative chest X-ray if positive; annual TB questionnaire; drug screen (10-panel or 9-panel without THC) within 60 days prior to start; measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity documentation; flu vaccine or exemption on file (required before start if starting during flu season, October 1 to April 1)
• Orientation: Pass/fail basic dysrhythmia exam (one attempt; study materials provided); facility modules (approximately 6 hours, completed before orientation); signed safety manual acknowledgement, updated annually
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years of start
• Skills checklist: Required for the applicable unit, updated annually
